The architecture found
in the Ukraine includes Byzantine, Baroque
and Gothic. These influences are reflected
in buildings, such as the churches, found
in its towns and cities. Traditional villages
contrast with the modern cities. Throughout
the country, Orthodox Christian festivals
are celebrated. Independence Day is on the
24th of August.

Geography: The Ukraine borders the Black
Sea. The country is located between Poland,
to the west and Russia, to the east. Much
of the land consists of fertile plains.
There are mountains in the Crimean to the

Mild winters in the south, along the Black
Sea coast. Colder inland and to the north.
Getting There: Visitors can enter the Ukraine by road or rail
from neighbouring countries. There are regular
flights to Kiev from many European airports and
ferry services across the Black Sea to Odessa.
