Formed in 1291, the
Swiss Confederation has been a neutral country
since 1648. Known for products such as watches
and chocolate, Switzerland is popular with
tourists who are attracted by its Alpine
mountains and Winter sports resorts, which
are busy from late November through to April.
During the Summer months, the warm climate
attracts visitors who enjoy activities such
as hiking. Good holiday deals can often
found during April, May, September and October.
Popular events include the carnivals which
are held in many towns during February and
the Montreux Jazz Festival held in July.
National Day is on the 1st of August.
Getting There: Switzerland has some of the best road and rail
links in Europe, with reliable train services
running to and from the major cities of France,
Germany and Italy. There are regular flights from
across Europe to the main Swiss airports in Geneva,
Zurich and Basel.
