The natural, cultural
and historical diversity of Spain attracts
millions of visitors each year. The countries
architecture ranges from Roman ruins to
Gothic churches, medieval castles and towns
from traditional to post modern. Tourists
enjoy the warm climate, sandy beaches, food
and drink and a rich culture which includes
flamenco and some of the worlds great artists,
whose works can seen in galleries and museums.
Festivals include Las Fallas, a week long
party of singing, dancing and processions
held during March in Valencia. In Pamplona,
the Running of the Bulls takes place during
the month of July and Carnival is celebrated
throughout Spain during February.
Geography: Spain is bordered by France
to the north and Portugal to the west. The
land ranges from the Atlantic coast and
Pyrenees Mountains in the north to large
central plains and the Mediterranean Coast
to the south.
Weather: Hot summers
and mild winters in the south and along
the coast. Hot summers and cold winters
to the north and the interior.
Getting There: Tourists can enter Spain by road or rail from
France or Portugal. There are regular flights
from airports across Europe to destinations such
as Madrid, Malaga, Barcelona, Bilbao, Seville,
Alicante and Palma de Mallorca. Ferries sail to
ports along the Spanish coasts.
