In 1991, Slovenia gained
independence from the former Yugoslavia,
managing to avoid the conflict which effected
some other parts of the region. The countries
attractions for tourists include Alpine
resorts and picturesque towns. Popular activities
include climbing, hiking and skiing during
the Winter months. Events include the Ski
Jump World Championships during March and
the Festival of theatre and music held in
Ljubljana during July and August.
