Dating back over thousands
of years, the ruins of Greek antiquity are
famed across the world. From the Minoan
and Mycenaean civilizations, to the remains
from its Classical period, when it was the
cradle of Western civilization, the art
and architecture of Greece attract millions
of visitors every year. Tourists are also
drawn to Greece by its beaches, holiday
islands and the Mediterranean climate. Most
visits to Greece are made during the Spring
and Summer, whilst much of the tourist infrastructure
is closed during the Winter months. Cultural
and religious festivals and events occur
throughout the year, including the Hellenic
festival which lasts from June to September,
when music and drama are performed in ancient
theatres.
Geography: Greece borders the Mediterranean
