Competing Western
and Eastern powers fought over Bosnia and
Hezegovina for centuries, shaping the region
and its people. Years of civil war in the
1990s, cost many lives and destroyed much
of the regions infrastructure, however Bosnia
and Herzegovina is rebuilding. Tourists
have begun returning, however some tensions
remain within the country and visitors should
take appropriate precautions. Sarajevo holds
an annual Film Festival in late August and
there are festivals of theatre and music
held in February and March.
