The country of Belgium
has historic cities, such as Bruges which
are rich in art and architecture and Brussels,
the location of the European Parliament.
Most festivals are held in July and August,
including an historic costume parade called
the Ommegang pageant, which is held on the
first Thursday in July. Belgium's National
Day is on the 21st of July and starts the
month long Brussels Fair. There are many
local fairs, film and music festivals, religious
processions, parades and carnivals held
throughout the year.
Geography: Belgium borders the North
Sea coast, between the Netherlands and France.
It has flat coastal plains, central rolling
hills and Forests in the southeast.
Getting There: Visitors can enter Belgium by road using the E-17,
E-19 and E-313. There are regular flights to Brussels
main international airport, which is 25 minutes
from the centre of the city. High speed trains
connect Brussels to London, Paris and Cologne
and there are normal services to other major cities.
Ferries sail to ports such as Ostend from England
and Ireland.
