Before it become a
parliamentary democracy, Andorra was ruled
jointly, between 1278 and 1993, by representatives
of Spain and France. Andorra has little
of cultural or historical interest, but
tourists are attracted by some of the best
hiking and skiing in the Pyrenees and the
duty-free shopping. The main ski season
runs from December to March, although some
resorts use snow machines to extend the
season. Hiking is popular during the Spring
and Summer months and many villages and
towns hold festivals between July and September.
