The capital of Sweden, Stockholm is the largest of the Scandinavian cities and located on an archipelago of fourteen islands. The rest of the archipelago consists of thousands of islets, rich in wildlife and natural beauty with fjords, straits and channels. The city has some of the least polluted air of any city in the world and is a blend of the natural and man made, with a third of the area being water, a third green spaces and a third buildings.

Visitors can stroll along the old streets and squares, past picturesque historic buildings and through the cities many parks. Tourist attractions include the Royal Palace and the surrounding Old Town, the Museum of National Antiquities and the Grona Lund amusement park. Popular local activities include ocean fishing, which can be done in the heart of the city, and there are ferries to the island of Djurgarden, which is home to many museums, art galleries and restaurants. For those who prefer shopping there are areas such as Biblioteksgatan and Odengatan. There is also a vibrant nightlife in Stockholm, with many restaurants, bars and nightclubs, whose licensing hours go on until 5am and during the summer the sun rarely sets.

Many of the attractions in Stockholm are near to each other, and are best explored on foot. The public transport network within the city includes the underground, buses, trains and ferries and you can purchase transferable tickets or travel cards. If you prefer to use a taxi, it should be easy to find one, whether you prebook or hail one on the streets.
