The capital of France, Paris is a city associated with romance, culture, fine food and elegant architecture. It is a center of the world fashion industry The layout of the city with its wide boulevards was planned more than 150 years ago and strict building regulations have ensured that it remains much the same today. From the top of the Eiffel Tower visitors can enjoy great views of the surrounding city, however Paris is best experienced by walking along its streets and avenues.

Tourist attractions in Paris include the Pompidou Centre, the Champs Elysees, Notre-Dame, the Louvre and the Picasso Museum. Visitors can also enjoy the street side cafes, gardens and forests and strolling along the banks of the River Seine. Travelling out from the capital, Disneyland Paris is located 20 miles to the east and Versailles 15 miles to the southwest.

Driving in Paris can be confusing for visitors and parking is difficult, so it is usually better to use public transport. The underground metro provides the fastest and cheapest means of transport within the city. There are also express trains and buses, including a night bus between 1am and 5.30am. Pricing of tickets is based around a zone system and a range of daily, weekly and monthly travel cards are available, some of which offer discounts at a number of tourist attractions, restaurants and shops. Between May and September there are sightseeing trips on boats along the river Seine.
